The Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health Foundation Launches Visiting Faculty Series

The Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health Foundation has developed a visiting faculty series titled Strategies for Preventing and Treating Uncontrolled Perioperative Bleeding. This grand rounds program, which combines didactic learning with specialty-specific cases, is being conducted live at various sites throughout the country. The premier live event, hosted by Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, exceeded expectations with an audience of 100+ attendees. The program also is available online through the Blood CME Center’s Web site, where registered users can view it on the Learning Center page and earn CME credit at their convenience.

Topics addressed in the program include patient types who may be at increased risk for perioperative bleeding and complications from acquired coagulopathy; guidelines for achieving balance between bleeding and clotting, which is further described by Dr. Jeffrey Lawson in this month’s featured activity; benefits and risks of blood products as a therapeutic modality; and available nontransfusional treatment modalities for achieving operative hemostasis.
