The Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health Foundation Hosts Program on Trauma-Related Coagulopathy

The Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health (CMH) Foundation hosted a luncheon symposium on Strategies for Reversing Trauma-Related Coagulopathy on March 25, 2008, in conjunction with the Trauma, Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery 2008 conference that was held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The symposium faculty included Richard P. Dutton, MD, MBA, and Deborah M. Stein, MD, MPH, FACS, both of the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center of the University of Maryland Medical System, and John B. Holcomb, MD, FACS, Commander of the US Army Institute of Surgical Research in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. During the presentation and Q&A, the faculty addressed such topics as traumatic brain injury and hemorrhagic shock in military personnel with combat-related trauma.

Program attendance exceeded expectations, with a standing-room-only audience of more than 350 trauma and critical care specialists. A wide range of specialties were represented at the meeting, including trauma and general surgery, anesthesiology and critical care, emergency medicine, hospitalists, and neurosurgery.

Two presentations from the program, delivered by Dr. Stein and Dr. Holcomb, will be posted on the Blood CME Center Web site in the near future as 30-minute online CEnow™ activities. Expert faculty interviews will accompany these activities as well.
